Greetings Everyone!
We are starting a new online seminar series focusing on astrophysics related to magnetic fields on scales above about 1 pc. The series is called GEMS (Galactic and Extragalactic Magnetism Seminars). The first talk is on Oct 14 at 09:00 UTC. You can find more information on the website:
https://sites.google.com/niser.ac.in/gems/home
The idea is to bring together people in this broad field, which includes radio continuum and far infrared observations to MHD simulations and dynamo theory. The talks will be once every 3 weeks at 09:00 UTC. We will invite early-career researchers with recent work that we feel is of general interest. The first 4 talks have been lined up:
- Oct 14, 2026: Dr. Frederick Gent, Aalto University/Stockholm University/Nordita (see the website for title and abstract)
- Nov 4, 2026: Dr. Catherine Hale, University of Edinburgh
- Nov 25, 2026: Dr. Vijay Mahatma, Cambridge University
- Dec 16, 2026: Dr. Yik Ki (Jackie) Ma, Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy
The format is a 45 minute talk, followed by 15 minutes of questions, followed by up to 30 minutes of general discussion.
In order to keep things organized, we require everyone to register using the google form available on the website:
https://sites.google.com/niser.ac.in/gems/registration
After registration, we will send you a google meet link.
We're excited to start the series and connect with many of you! Please forward this email widely to other researchers who may be interested.
Best,
Preeti & Luke (on behalf of the GEMS Organizing Committee)
