Dear members of the Astronomical Society of India,
In September 2026, we started a series of online seminars organized by the Belgo-Indian Network for Astronomy and Astrophysics (BINA), with the aim of further strengthening collaboration between Indian and Belgian astronomers. We are happy to invite you to the next online seminar of this series, which will be presented by Mr. Athul Dileep (ARIES, Nainital, India) on Friday 2026/11/13 at 09:00 UT (10:00 in Belgium; 14:30 in India). Please find the details below.
Please feel free to share this message and encourage colleagues who might be interested to subscribe to the mailing list of the BINA seminars (see below for instructions).
Kind regards,
Peter De Cat (on behalf of the BINA Steering Committee <binaconsortium@gmail.com>)
------------------------- BINA SEMINAR -----------------------------

Speaker: Mr. Athul Dileep (ARIES, Nainital, India)
Title: Cluster asteroseismology of open clusters with TESS full-frame images
Abstract: Asteroseismology provides a uniquely direct method for probing stellar interiors, yet traditional stellar modeling is frequently hindered by degeneracies—most notably, age uncertainties associated with field stars. Open clusters offer a powerful framework to overcome this limitation by sharing fundamental parameters, including age, initial chemical composition, and distance, thereby placing stringent constraints on stellar evolution models. The era of space-based photometry, driven by missions such as Kepler, TESS, and Gaia, has revolutionized asteroseismology and star cluster characterization. While standard TESS data products are readily available primarily for bright stars (Tmag < 12), a vast wealth of information for fainter stars and clusters remains concealed within the TESS Full Frame Images (FFIs). This talk explores a synergistic approach combining cluster science with asteroseismology using TESS FFIs to investigate fainter, previously unexplored open clusters with space photometry. The discussion centers on young-to-intermediate-age open clusters hosting multi-periodic pulsating stars, specifically delta Scuti, gamma Doradus, and Slowly Pulsating B (SPB) stars, with particular emphasis on recent findings from case studies of open clusters NGC 2126 and NGC 2343.
