Machine Learning in Solar Physics and Space Weather: Livestream Links

The "Machine Learning in Solar Physics and Space Weather" workshop is being conducted in hybrid mode at the Center of Excellence in Space Sciences India (CESSI), IISER Kolkata from 28 June - 02 July, 2022. The workshop brings together experts in the field of Machine Learning and Space Weather Predictions from various institutions in India, Sweden and other countries and is sponsored by the SPARC program of the Ministry of Education and CESSI, IISER Kolkata.

Aditya-L1 Science Support cell workshop from 27 June to 6 July 2022

On behalf of the organising committee, I am pleased to announce the first ADITYA-L1 Science Support Cell (AL1SSC) workshop that will be held at the ARIES, Nainital from 27th June to 6th July 2022. This workshop is primarily for students who are pursuing M.Sc/Integrated PhD (1st and 2nd year)/Integrated M.Sc (4th or 5th year)/B.Tech/M.Tech or who have passed M.Sc (Physics)/B.Tech/M.Tech/Integrated M.Sc (Physics) in 2021 with an interest and motivation to work in solar physics.

Gaia Symposium: DR3 And Beyond (11 - 15 July, 2022)

The Gaia mission of the European Space Agency has been mapping the entire sky for the last eight years. It has delivered two data releases (DR1 and DR2) and one early data release (EDR3) so far. The EDR3 release includes full astrometric solutions for 585 million sources and photometry for 1.806 billion sources with a limiting G magnitude of 21. The complete third data release (DR3) is scheduled for 13 June 2022, which will include a vast amount of data, including low/medium resolution spectra of bright sources.

NSSS 2022 Public Lecture Series: Initiating Today

In continuation of the year-long celebration of Indian space sciences, envisaged in the context of the National Space Science Symposium (NSSS 2022), CESSI, IISER Kolkata in collaboration with the Science Program Office of ISRO is pleased to announce a new public lecture series. The NSSS lecture series is meant to inform the public about important developments in space sciences in the country, highlight past, currently ongoing and future space science missions and present important astronomy and astrophysics research being performed around the country.

Announcing the lecture series by Prof. G. Srinivasan - Astronomy and Astrophysics: An Introductory Survey

The Astronomical Society of India is pleased to announce the release of the inaugural lecture of the much anticipated lecture series titled "Astronomy and Astrophysics: An Introductory Survey". Aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, this series of talks by renowned astrophysicist and teacher, Prof G. Srinivasan, starts from first principles of Physics, and builds up the subject rigorously to the present state of our understanding.

Nominations are Invited for the ASI awards 2021

The deadline for receiving the nominations for ASI 2021 awards has been extended upto 31st December 2021.

ASI is pleased to invite nominations for the following awards for the year 2021. The last date for the receipt of nominations is the 31st of December, 2021.

You will notice some changes in norms for these awards. These are based on the recommendations of a committee set up by the ASI in response to the discussion in the 39th General Body Meeting held online during the ASI 2021. The webpages for these awards have been updated as well.

12th Anna Mani lecture on October 6, 2021 at 5 pm

The 12th Anna Mani lecture will be delivered by Chayanika Shah, on "Unpacking gender to understand the gendered culture of science: A queer feminist take”.
