The Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology (IIST) announces the 12th IIST Astronomy & Astrophysics School (IAAS2024), which will be held from July 1–10, 2024, at IIST. The school is open for students who are pursuing their M.Sc. (who are completing their first year), Integrated M.Sc. (completing their 4th year), and B. Tech Engineering Physics (completing their 3rd year).
Applications are invited for FIVE POSTS of RESEARCH ASSISTANT on a temporary basis for the CMB Distortion Lab in RADIO ASTRONOMY. The lab hosts a number of indigenously designed experiments to carry out precision measurements of the radio sky spectrum. This would enable the much sought after detection of spectral distortions in the cosmic radio background arising from formation of very first atoms to birth of first stars and galaxies in the Universe.
A JRF position is available in the SERB-sponsored research project on studying “Ionospheric effect on the redshifted 21-cm radio-interferometric observations with uGMRT and satellite observations". The project is based at Banwarilal Bhalotia College, Asansol, WB, India. More details are attached.
On 8th April 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible across vast tracts of populated regions in the Americas. Occurring near the peak of sunspot cycle 25, one expects to see a relatively more complex and spectacular coronal structure this time. The CESSI, IISER Kolkata Solar Eclipse Dashboard has a prediction of the (approximate) coronal structure expected to be seen during the eclipse, along with many relevant information on solar eclipses, links to resources including livestream links. The first MALS data release (DR1v2) provided radio continuum images and a catalog of 495,325 (240,321) radio sources detected over an area of 2289 deg2 (1132 deg2) via 391 pointings at 1006 MHz (1381 MHz). The data release is described in Deka et al. 2024.
