5th Shaw-IAU Workshop on Astronomy for Education

Dear ASI members,

The 5th Shaw-IAU Workshop on Astronomy for Education organized by the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education is just around the corner, and we would be delighted to have you join us for this event.

This year’s Shaw-IAU Workshop on Astronomy for Education focuses on two themes. The first theme is the special topic, which is practical astronomy education outside the classroom. This topic includes astronomy teaching in diverse environments such as science centers, planetaria and youth clubs.

International Conference on Planets, Exoplanets and Habitability from 5-9 Feb 2024 at PRL, Ahmedabad

The 'International Conference on Planets, Exoplanets and Habitability' will take place on the 5th to 9th February 2024 at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, India. This interdisciplinary,  international meeting is taking place relatively soon and you will be  very welcome to join to share and engage with exciting new research  findings across the meeting's themes.

The abstract submission deadline is the 10th January 2024.

2 JRF positions at NISER Bhubaneswar in Max Planck Partner Group project and Chandrayaan-2 IIRS project

2 JRF positions are available in 2 separate projects (Max Planck Partner Group project for asteroid Ceres, and ISRO project on Chandrayaan-II). Nature of work is mainly satellite data/image (hyperspectral) processing and calibration, then analysis of the surface composition and also trying to model the physico-chemical conditions.

Prof. Tanuka Chattopadhyay (26th January 1963 – 16th October 2023) (L2147)

Professor Tanuka Chattopadhyay (née Kanjilal), a member of the Astronomical Society of India, passed away on October 16th this year, at the age of 60, after a long and heroic battle with cancer.  She was a Professor in  the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Calcutta.  She  has been Head of the Department and Dean, Faculty of Science, Calcutta University. At her demise she was  Director, Center for Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the University.  

First circular of "Exploring the Universe from Near to Far" Conference from Feb 16-21, 2024 at ICSP, Kolkata

We are pleased to share the first circular for our 1st biennial astronomy conference, "Exploring the Universe from Near to Far," scheduled for February 16-21, 2024 at ICSP, Kolkata.

This conference is a significant part of our Silver Jubilee celebration. ICSP holds a prominent position in India as a leading institution for space and astronomy research. ICSP has launched the Astronomy and Space Museum, featuring an impressive collection of over 1200 exhibits, making it the first in India.
