The Astronomical Society of India was established in 1972 and has grown to become the prime association of professional astronomers in India. The society has close to 1000 members. The objectives of the society are the promotion of Astronomy and related branches of science in India. The society organizes scientific meetings and supports the popularization of Astronomy and other similar activities.

Invite to join the BRICS - STI collaborative efforts

Dear All,

Greetings!

The BRICS Astronomy Working Group, together with the participating member nations, is currently preparing a joint application under the BRICS STI Framework Programme (PI: Prof. David Buckley). I will be coordinating the Indian contributions to this proposal.

With this email, I would like to invite interested members of the Indian Astronomy community to join the initiative and contribute to preparing the joint application in areas where they can meaningfully support the project.

1st International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) Contest

The 1st ILMT Contest is a nationwide astronomical data analysis competition organized using data from the 4-m International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT). This initiative aims to bring together students to work on real observational data and develop innovative solutions for detecting and analysing streaks in astronomical images, which are mostly caused by passing satellites and space debris.

International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) data archive

Dear All,

The 4m International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) is India’s first optical survey telescope, which has been continuously monitoring the zenith sky since its first light in April 2022 and has successfully completed four observing cycles until 2025. It covers an area of approximately 115 deg² per year, acquiring nearly 4 TB of high-quality imaging data in the SDSS g′, r′, and i′ filters. The images are fully preprocessed and astrometrically calibrated, with positional accuracies better than ~0.1 arcsec.

Conference On Blazars and Restless AGNs (COBRA): A High-Energy View from 1-3 July, 2026 at IISER Mohali

The second edition of "Conference On Blazars and Restless AGNs (COBRA): A High-Energy View", jointly organized by Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali. This year, we are delighted to host the meeting at IISER, Mohali from July 1-3, 2026.

The conference is aimed at researchers working in the area of active galactic nuclei and related topics, particularly those relevant to high-energy astrophysics. Please find more details on the website below.
